The Koh Tao Pub Crawl is something that you just have to do when you are on the Island. It usually happens every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. My scuba certification course ended just in time for me to celebrate with this fun pub crawl.
Koh Tao Backpackers runs the pub crawl and costs about 10 USD. Included with your ticket is a free t-shirt – I kept mine as a souvenir and still have it three years later. You also get a free BUCKET of alcohol and two shots. If you are wondering, what exactly is a bucket of alcohol?– think of the buckets that you used to play in the sand with as a child, only this time it is filled with cheap alcohol and Red Bull.
The first stop at the pub crawl is where you get your bucket. At this stop my friend and I met two other Canadian girls who where a riot. We were instant best friends for the rest of the night.
From there we moved to the next place- De Ja Vous. This was my highlight of the entire night! De Ja Vous is a cabaret bar where ladyboys perform. They were amazing to watch! A lot of them were dressed up like celebrities, my favourite was Beyonce. My new friends and I couldn’t believe how good these lady boys looked- their boobs were nicer than ours!
Then the ladyboys when out into the audience and picked some men to take part in the show. About five minutes later, the curtains opened and out walked all of these pasty, hairy tourists with beer bellies wearing nothing but their underwear and a bikini top stuffed with toilet paper. They were also given wigs as an effort to make them look more feminine.
They made a solid attempt at shaking what their Mamma gave them to the beat of Lady gaga. I was on the floor laughing hysterically. Let’s just say that we should leave it up to the professionals
After the show you can get pictures with the ladyboys. I would share my pictures with you except that the ladyboys look way hotter than me.
From then things got a little more fuzzy. We went to two more bars (in what order I’m not sure). One of the bars had a live band playing and the other one was on the beach. To be honest- I think people just sort of scatter anywhere that had alcohol and music.
Even if pub crawls aren’t usually your thing, I would recommend doing this while you’re in Koh Tao. Since it’s on an island, this pub crawl has a very relaxed and fun feel to it. It is a good way to meet new people, see a great show and get a free shirt. And who knows…you might find your true calling as a cabaret performer
