The whole city of Calgary is one big party during these wild ten days of the Calgary Stampede. However, there are some places that know how to party better than others. Here are the top places to go if you want to party right this Stampede.
1. Nashville North
If you are looking for a party on the actual stampede grounds then this is your place. The bar markets itself as ‘a live country paradise”’- and they’re not lying. Featuring some of the biggest names in country music, you can see them here any time of the day. And the best part of it all- once you are in the Stampede Grounds entrance is free!
Usually you are waiting in line for hours for this epic party, but to be honest sometimes the line is where you have the most fun!
2. Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dancehall
As a country bar since 1972, you know that Ranchman’s isn’t just putting up a front just for the Stampede. It is an iconic Western bar in Calgary that is decorated with classic western ornaments. After a few beers you just might think you’re actually in the wild wild west.
3. Cowboys Dance Hall
This is Ranchman’s true rival. Cowboys is a fun bar that is filled all year round with country music fans- so don’t be surprised when the whole bar breaks into a country line dance. During the Stampede they even open up a tent (which is basically a whole other bar right beside it) where they put on concerts. It may seem like a huge venue but this place gets packed too.
4. Wildhorse Saloon
This bar/tent pops up just for the Stampede and is a local favourite. Located in the heart of downtown it has live bands performing that get the whole place up and dancing. Every time I am here I meet great people- like the guy in this photo who reminded us of Austin Powers. This place even serves burgers so you can refuel and then get back to dancing with that cute cowboy.
5. Knoxville’s Tavern
As a new country bar in town, Knoxville doesn’t earn as high of a ranking as other tried and true country bars in the city. But since it’s the Stampede and this is a country bar in Calgary it’s worth a night out- especially even you want to avoid insane lines.
